OVERVIEW:

The HI-3854-100 are replacement reagents for the colorimetric determination of zinc with the HI-3854 Zinc Test Kit. There are enough reagents for 100 tests to be used with Hanna’s test kit. These high quality reagents are clearly marked with the lot number and expiry date on each packet and bottle for traceability.

Zinc is normally introduced into drinking water through industrial effluents. In addition to drinking water, zinc is measured in surface finishing, boilers and cooling towers, water conditioning and effluent waters.

Colourimetric method:

The HI-3854 zinc portable test kit makes monitoring easy, quick and safe. Range (0.0-3.0 mg/L) Low range. Range (0.0-4.0 mg/L) (0.0-20.0 mg/L) Wide range.

Zinc reacts with the zincon reagent to form a brownish-green to blue complex in a solution buffered at alkaline pH.

Since other metals can form coloured complexes with zincon, cyanide is added to complex zinc and any other heavy metal present. Then, cyclohexanone is added to selectively free zinc from its cyanide complex so that it can react with zincon to form the final blue coloured product. The amount of colour developed is proportional to the concentration of zinc present in the aqueous sample.
